The Sir John Monash Centre

The Sir John Monash Centre (SJMC ) is intended to provide a lasting legacy that ensures that the First World War service and sacrifice of Australians on the Western Front will not be forgotten.

The SJMC as a project comprised three significant and interdependent bodies of works:

  1. The construction and fitout of a major new building of exceptional architectural and interpretive design quality that would house:

  2. The design and implementation of technical infrastructure, software systems and hardware that would enable the delivery of:

  3. World class multimedia exhibitions that would tell the stories of those Australians who served and died in France and Belgium in their own words.

Built on the site of the Australian National Memorial. The Centre is an international standard interpretive centre utilizing cutting edge technologies to deliver a range of interactive and multimedia experiences all linked to and driven by a bespoke smartphone app.

The content on the screens is a mix of:

  • High production value historical recreations interwoven with digitally restored historical archival;

  • interactive content built using game development technology and

  • contemplative and thought provoking media displays.

Global Project Solutions (GPS) managed the project on behalf of the Department of Veterans’ Affairs from business case through the supplier tendering process, the design and development all the way to delivery of the building, its systems, the app, its website and all of the content.

GPS delivered the project on time and significantly under budget and the Centre was officially opened by the Prime Ministers of Australia and France in April 2018 to coincide with the Anzac Centenary of WW1.

Since opening the Centre has received acclaim from many sources with incredible letters of appreciation from stakeholders, amazing reviews from visitors (5 star rating on TripAdvisor) and a raft of awards including:
